[Re]construct - Yorkshire Sculpture Park

[Re]construct is an exhibition made up of sculptures and video pieces from the Arts Council Collection exploring architecture and built spaces. Located in the Chapel at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the show was curated by Sarah Coulson and runs from April 1 to June 25. The curation of the small space was relatively minimal and, similarly to Disobedient Bodies at the Hepworth, it had a free brochure which featured information about the exhibition such as artists names and titles of the works.

The curator had been very clever in using the small but very interesting space. The dominant pieces such as Cornelia Parker's Neither From Nor Towards could be viewed easily from a range of positions in the room as viewers could walk around it on the ground level and view from up high on the balcony. The video pieces where carefully places in picturesque spots in the Chapel including one tucked away in a small arch next to the stairs. This intimacy between the space and the work was very effective and really made me as a viewer engage wit the pieces of work ad the building it's self in a very different way to in a conventional gallery. This was particularly fitting given the exhibition's theme is to make us look again at the built environments around us.

I really enjoyed this exhibition and thought the curation worked very well in bringing the works and the space together to address larger ideas than any of the individual pieces could on their own.
